Maison Fairbairn House
Into our 8th year(!) of being Quebec’s first Fair Trade town: Fair Trade wine and local cheese tasting to mark the occasion. Fun and games for the kids too of course, along with local vendors, farmers, Fair trade news, and music too! A barbecue with local meat and vegetarian offerings by Bistro Rutherford. All at Maison Fairbairn House near the end of the covered bridge (45 Chemin de Wakefield Heights, Wakefield).

SCHEDULE:
11 am: Vendors, local producers & displays, Fair trade coffee
11 am: Kids events: scavenger hunt, mini soccer clinic with two U16 players, Fair trade chocolate fondue
Noon-ish (!): Fair trade Wine & cheese, chocolate: $10 donation for 3 samples of FT wines with local cheese, chocolate
Lunchtime: Bistro Rutherfords selling Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Local burgers, Veg Chili on a Bun, Nut Burgers

To celebrate Earth Day, Wakefield Trails will be having the first group work sessions of the season on Tuesday, April 22 and Saturday , April 26th – two sessions each day. Mornings: 9:00 – noon; afternoons: 1:00 – 4:00. Register in advance by e-mailing. We will let you know where to go and what to bring.

Walk from the Wakefield Centre over the Mill Trail and visit the Mill for these special events:
In the McLaren Room:
1-2pm: LEED presentation by Tom Reid
2-3pm: Gérard Gavrel, President of the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa, will show the Tesla and give a short presentation on the work of the Council.
1-3pm: Dessert tastings featuring honey from the new green roof apiary.
Free shuttle service / Service de navette gratuit
Transports Adaptés et Collectifs des Collines will operate a shuttle service from the Wakefield Centre to the Mill and the Cemetery Trail throughout the day.

Wakefield Community Centre
Kids were the focus: Crafts and activities. We learned about the realities for many children around the world working in hazardous conditions with no schooling with displays and participation by World Vision Canada. We found out how to make a difference by shopping for and creating a demand for goods that are produced in safe conditions by workers receiving fair pay. That’s what Fair Trade is all about! Local participating shops make it easy by offering Fair Trade coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, sugar, spices, bananas and jewellery.
Activities:
Vendors with homemade snacks, local produce, and Fair crafts
Kids gathered to make a beaded something for Mother’s Day, instruments for shaking in our parade:
Parade: everyong brang along instruments to join in the ruckus and celebration!
Come celebrate La Pêche’s status as a fair trade municipality – First in Quebec!
There will be Fair Trade Chocolate – yum.
When?: Saturday, 12th of May, 10 am – 2 pm
Where?: Wakefield Community Centre – inside and out
What?: Chocolate tastings, hot chocolate, chocolate crafts for kids (and fruit sculptures with Fair Trade Bananas); and a MOVIE about Chocolate at noon, Multi-purpose room: “Chocolate: The Bitter Truth” (UK; 40 mins)

An estimated 80 000 individuals around the globe feasted on Fairtrade breakfasts for World Fair Trade Day.
In collaboration with the La Pêche Plastic Alternatives Group we planned an afternoon and evening of great fun for the whole family at the Salle Desjardns, La Pêche Sports Complex, Masham!
WHY? Because we were the first Fair Trade Town in Quebec!! (now there are 5)

Screening of film 'Addicted to Plastic' (dubbed in French)
"Addicted to Plastic" is about solutions to plastic pollution. Three years in the filming in 12 countries, the movie provides a lively mix of expert interviews with practical, cutting edge and optimistic solutions on how we can deal with plastic.
7 pm : Family music and dance with Québecois, Cajun & other tunes by La Pêche band Godknowswhat and Natasha Ducharme, local square dance caller extraordinaire.

This year the Wakefield La Pêche Fair Trade Town Committee and Wakefield Ensemble partnered to bring an incredible day of interactive fun for the environmental activist in us all and to celebrate our community's green vision.

May 2010 Wellness Weekend and Fair Trade Fair
From music and dancing, to laughter, fun and honouring the craft/trades of our local/global community, to hands-on sharing and exploration: during International Fair Trade Week this event was in celebration of the wealth of goodness our community has to offer. There was lots of food, music, practitioners and mini-sessions, vendors, demonstrations, presentations, workshops, and door prizes. We hope to make this an annual tradition.

Harvest Fest 2009
Due to popular demand, we had 2 workshops on
"ALTERNATE WAYS TO PRESERVE THE FALL BOUNTY"
Along with the bake sale, we had our new jute, fair trade co-op-made,bags for sale to put yer veggies in (see "initiatives" for details) as well as fair trade organic brown and red rice to put yer veggies on!

2 Year Fair Trade Town Anniversary!
Wakefield celebrated its second birthday as a fair trade village with food, a craft fair, a fashion show and live music. vendors included MacMillan Farms, Le Coprin Mushrooms, Berg en Dal Honey, Urban Forest Soaps Life Without Plastic, and the United Church. The Premier of the official fair trade song was also performed by students and adults who sang it live to the smooth sound of horns and drums. The Plastic Bag-Free Initiative was also launched on the same daywhich commenced with a CBC documentary entitled "Battle of the Bag".
